New Year: Fear of A New Me


In the new year there is excitement, promise but also fear for some. New beginnings sometimes come with a sense of anxiety. When you think of New Years resolutions, new goals and experiences there’s a sense of uncertainty that comes with it. Anxiety is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences at one time or another in their lives. In some more then others. Anxiety comes in different forms and can cause so much distress that it interferes with a persons ability to lead a normal life. The illness can sometimes be overwhelming and crippling. So as the New Year approaches this fear of change and evolution escalates tremendously. Common New Years resolutions for people with anxiety are to 1) Go out more,2)Be more open and 3) Get a hobby. There’s so many ways to overcome anxiety and get you life back.

Step 1: Identify the source of your anxiety.Whether you have a panic attack or a sudden bout of worry and fear, it is important to determine what is causing your anxiety. Is something in your environment the primary source? Is a possible mishap the origin?

Step 2 : Determine if your worry is solvable. If you know what your fear is, the next step is to determine if it is something you can deal with, or something that only time can manage.

Step 3: Accept uncertainty. It can be tough to stop worrying when you’re never quite sure how things will play out. At this point, it is important to simply accept the fact of uncertainty.

We can’t know how something will go, or what the ending may be. I know this is easier said then done but speaking from personal experience it’s so important to try to get control of your life back. So if you or someone you know suffers with any form of anxiety, be there for them and let them know things will get better.
